Ivanhoe Slot review
Ivanhoe is a classic slot machine which borrows from the story of a knight that lived in medieval England, in one of the novels written by Sir Walter Scott.
Ivanhoe should be a familiar name for many, at least if you read the novel that Sir Walter Scott wrote and which has the exact same name. Sadly, there isn’t that much on the reels to suggest the connection to medieval life, since the symbols are chosen from among the classics. That’s why you’re going to see in there images of cherries, lemons, 7s, Bar logos, watermelons, while the only one more interesting has the game logo on it. You see a sort of 8 bit animation right behind the game logo and the reels, while even further out there is s static drawing of a tournament, with trumpeters announcing its start. I had hopes from this slot machine, based on the theme and name, and I have to say that ELK Studios missed the mark with the design.
They did better in other areas though, like with the fact that they used the 3×3 reels to host 17 ways to win on them, rather than rely on the usual paylines that classics tend to offer. The big rewards announced for Ivanhoe get to a value of 3,000x. For a game with 3 reels, it is also surprising that it offers scatter symbols, free spins and bonus games.
The game has two modes to play it in. The normal mode is the usual one, where you form your combinations with symbols that match on consecutive reels. To get into the bonus game mode, you need three bonus symbols together on the three reels. You get 5 free spins out of them, and then you switch to the other mode.
The bonus game has multiple levels, each one bringing you an extra 3 free spins if you can trigger it, plus an increasing multiplier. You start with a 2x multiplier at the initial level, and you can get to 6x eventually. For the free spins, you will find that the Crown symbol is turned into a wild, and that it can be used as a replacement for the majority of the symbols that you get. You can’t use it as a replacement for the bonus symbols though.
Ivanhoe has fulfilled part of its promise, and it ends up being an interesting slot machine, mainly thanks to its average RTP of 96.3% and its unusual bonus features. I would’ve wanted a much better design for this particular medieval theme though.
