Reel Rush might be a fruit themed slot machine, but its unique angle gets it to look just as much as a Mario arcade game.

The thing that differentiates Reel Rush from other slot machines isn’t just the use of Mario like fruit symbols. It’s also about the way the reels look, with many of the symbol positions covered, and with the five reels having a sort of diamond like look, the number of symbols varying between 1 and 5 on them. The other reel positions are uncovered through consecutive wins obtained in the game, during the same spin. The slot uses ways to win and it can have about 45 normally, going to 135 to 1875 active during respins. The top payout is at only $2,000.

Though the symbols are recognizable as fruits or as candy, the shape that they have is quite different from the real ones. You will find a background image that relies heavily on square shapes, applying them to clouds, trees and even mushrooms. It’s an interesting design, but not an overly attractive one.

The game needs you to wager with multiples of 50 coins, so you can go up to 500 coins with a single bet. The coin value in Reel Rush starts at $0.01 and can go up to $0.20, the maximum total value being $100 each round. The minimum bet is at only $0.50 though.

As I mentioned in the intro, you start off the game with a limited number of symbols active. You have only one symbol on the 1st and 5th reels, three symbols on the 2nd and the 4th, and five active symbols on the 3rd reel. Whenever you form a combo, using ways to win, you trigger re-spins. The first respin gets you 135 ways to win, activating two extra positions on the first reel. The second respin activates another two symbols on the fifth reel, taking it to 405 ways to win. This keeps happening until the fifth re-spin, at which point you have 1875 ways to win. Of course, in order to get that many re-spins, each one needs to bring you a winning combination.

Once you’ve gone through five successful re-spins, you trigger the slot’s 8 free spins, which will have 3125 ways to win active.

Another major feature, besides the re-spins, will be the wild icon, used on the last four reels of Reel Rush. These wilds will substitute for all other symbols, since they’re the only ones with a special ability.

I’m not a fan of the way this game makes you wager in multiples of 50 coins just to get a couple of ways to win active, since other slots will give you 1024 ways to win for a smaller wager. You need multiple re-spins to get to that many ways to win in this game. The payouts are on the low side as well, and the features are mostly average.
