Voodoo Gold Slot review

This is the third game in the Gold series from ELK Studios, it offers very good payouts and lots of ways to win.

Voodoo Gold is coming third in a series that ELK Studios seems to have invested a lot of time and money in. The first couple of games took us to Ecuador and Tahiti, and so they were fairly tame destinations, fun as well as potentially profitable. In Voodoo Gold, Elk tries something different though, and ends up relying on the dark arts instead, the location for the action being in the Louisiana swamps. It’s a very big game area, one which receives a mix of symbols that seem perfect for its story. This means that we get the adventurer Kane in one role, while in other symbols we discover a couple of Voodoo characters, skulls, top hats, dice, a crows foot, a bottle of poison, hearts, stars, goats and crosses. Add the creepy design of the swamp, shown in the background, and the effect is complete. It’s a great looking game, though that’s something that you always seem to get in Elk Studios releases.

Up to $500,000 can be paid by Voodoo Gold, so that’s an impressive 5,000x return on the wager. The game has 6×4 reels, but it can expand to a maximum of 6×8 reels and as many as 262,144 ways. I’m quite satisfied with its features, since they range from Big Symbols (2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 sized), to Voodoo Wilds, Avalanches, Bombs and Dual Bombs, scatters and Free Drops.

When you pick the wager, you will have the option to select the total amount. It’s going to vary between $0.20and $100. It also uses 100 coins.

Bonus symbols will explode and remove surrounding symbols, bringing others in. When two Bonus symbols appear, they act as Dual Bombs, so the symbols found between them also explode.

Avalanches trigger and remove winning symbols, allowing new combinations to sometimes form. This expands the game area and the number of ways, adding one row to the top with each new Avalanche of the same spin.

3+ Bonus symbols get you 6 to 15 Free Drops, which is the slot’s name for free spins. You can’t retrigger them.

You can get Big Symbols to appear, with up to 4×4 positions occupied by one. If they drop in spots where they don’t fit fully, then they use wilds to fill the empty locations underneath them.

Voodoo Gold looks like it could be a very interesting slot machine, with a lot of different features, big payouts and a Voodoo theme that’s well implemented.
